Taubman Retires form Clothing Store and Will Engage in Ranching Charles Taubman has sold his interest in the clothing store of Taubman Bros. to his brother, Harry Taubman, who will hereafter be the sole proprietor, and has purchased a ranch of eighty acres in the Waddington section , to the management of which he will devote time in future. He also purchased 40 cows, together with the hay, farming implements, etc., on the place. Both deals were concluded the last of the week, though Mr. Taubman has had the move under consideration of several weeks past. The ranch purchased is what is known as the old Patrick place, which of late has been managed by Chas. Genzoli. It is considered one of the best places in that section. Mr. Taubman and family will take up their residence on the place as soon after December 1st as possible. Harry Taubman, who now becomes sole proprietor of the Taubman Bros.' store, will be assisted by Dave Hartley, formerly of this town but now of Alton, in addition to the present store force. Mr. Hartley is an experienced salesman and has a large number of friends here who are glad that he and his family are again to reside in Ferndale. They will reside in the house to be vacated by Charles Taubman and family. The firm of Taubman Bros. has been one of the most progressive and up-to-date in the county and this policy will be maintained under the ownership of Harry Taubman. In retiring from the business Charlie Taubman has the best wishes of all for his future success in his new line of work, and his friends are glad that he is to still remain in this valley. Ferndale Enterprise (California) Friday - December 6, 1918 Prominent Businessman Of Ferndale Passes Away The death of Harry L. Taubman on Wednesday afternoon, December 4th, came as a great shock to the community of one of its finest young business men. Harry Taubman was in business with his father in the Red Star Clothing House for a number of years, afterwards taking the business into his own hands and conducting it personally until the day before his death. He was at his place of business Tuesday apparently in his usual health, but was taken violently ill that evening and although all that medical help could do was done his life could not be saved. Harry Lee Taubman was born at Maquoketa, Iowa, January 16th, 1880, and came to California with his parents in 1885; he lived in California the remaining years of his life with the exception of two years in Honolulu. On August 20, 1902, he was united in marriage to Helene Helgestad, who passed away in September, 1905, leaving one daughter, Maloa Belle. He was married on August 11, 1907, to May Belle Heney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Heney of Table Bluff. To them was born one daughter, Amy. Besides the wife and two daughters he leaves to mourn his loss the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Taubman of Ferndale, and two brothers, Charles F. Taubman of Waddington, and Merton H. Taubman, now doing army service at Penn Field, Austin, Texas. **************************************** Ferndale Enterprise (California) Friday - December 13, 1918 Harry Taubman Laid To Rest The funeral services for Harry L. Taubman were held at the Congregational Church Friday afternoon, December 6th, at two o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. R. D. Douglass. A choir composed of Mr. Bugbee, Mrs. My Boynton, Mrs. W.F. Ries, Miss Mary Gill and Miss Agnes Smith, assisted in the services. Mrs. Bertram Rusk sang "Some Day We'll Understand." The pallbearers were Harry Harbers, Robert Richmond, N. Halkjar, Geo. Haywood, John Christiansen and Elbert Reynolds. A wealth of beautiful floral offerings added their beauty and bore testimony of the loving thought of many friends. Seldom in the history of Ferndale has there been such a gathering of the people and there were many who could not secure admission, who waited on the sidewalks to accompany the cortege to the Ferndale Cemetery. Such an outpouring of friends attests in a measure to the high place held by Harry Taubman in the hearts of his townspeople. Having lived the greater part of his life in Ferndale, he was well known and admired and respected by all as a young man of sterling worth, upright and honest in every relation of life. A son of whom his parents might be justly proud, a kind and loving husband and father, he leaves a memory that will be cherished always by those who loved him. To all of his loved ones whose hearts are saddened that deepest sympathy of countless friends is extended and in this expression of condolence The Enterprise wishes to unite.
