Description	:	Harry Martin Wilson was born on July 4, 1865 at Fairview, Illinois where the early years of his life were spent. He graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. In 1855 he came to Walnut, Iowa and engaged as a clerk for J.T. Spangler for one year, and then took charge of the grain business for W.H. Negley. In July, 1888, he bought a one-half interest therein, and the firm enjoyed a successful trade. Socially Mr. Wilson was an Odd Fellow, and has held the office of Secretary. He graduated from Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. In 1855 he came to Walnut, Iowa and engaged as a clerk for J.T. Spangler for one year, and then took charge of the grain business for W.H. Negley. In July, 1888, he bought a one-half interest therein, and the firm enjoyed a successful trade. Socially Mr. Wilson was an Odd Fellow, and has held the office of Secretary. He also is a member of the A.O.U.W. In politics he is a Republican. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Wilson was united in marriage with Miss Nettie A. Boiler at Walnut, Iowa, on May 8, 1889, and to their union three children were born: Clair C., Joseph A., and Julia. Mr. Wilson retired about 1908 and made his winter home in Spencer, Iowa for ten years, and then moved to Des Moines Beach on Lake Okoboji, residing at Sleepy Hollow, until 1925 when he purchased the fine J.Q. Adams mansion which was one of the places under consideration in 1927 as a summer residence for President Coolidge. The mansion consisted of thirty rooms, five bathrooms, three fireplaces, master room 24 by 26 feet in size, with private bath and fireplace. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Wilson made their summer home at the lake and spent the winters in California or in traveling. In 1926 they traveled to Japan, China, Hawaiian Islands and the Philippines. Upon their return to Lake Okoboji Mr. and Mrs. Wilson discovered that their colored maid had taken a husband who soon became their chauffeur. Mr. Wilson died on a Monday morning, April 2, 1928, aged 62 years, 8 months, and 28 days. He died of pneumonia of eight days duration. Genial in disposition and of attractive personality, Mr. Wilson had in wonderful measure the faculty of making friends. To young and old around the lakes he was known as "Pop Wilson". The funeral services was conducted by Dr. W.D. Morrow of Hastings, Nebraska a revered friend of Mr. Wilson and the interment was in Okoboji Cemetery at Arnolds Park within the sound of the murmuring waters of the lake he loved so well.
