Nelson, died at his home in Asbury Friday of last week, August 2nd, following an illness of several months. He was 82 years of age. Nelson, died at his home in Asbury Friday of last week, August 2nd, following an illness of several months. He was 82 years of age. Mr. Nelson was the son of the late Elijah and Nancy Sterling Nelson, and the husband of Mrs. Olevia Riggin Nelson, who survives him. He was a retired seafood packer, having been engaged in the seafood business as a packer and processor of oysters and crabs for many years, and was well known and highly respected in the Chesapeake Bay area. A kindly, courteous man, Mr. Nelson made friends easily and held them. He had been successful in business, had been a helpful man all his life, had been a leader in community and civic affairs in the community, and for years was a member of the Official Board of Asbury Methodist Church, where he attended services regularly and was active in church affairs. Mr. Nelson was also a Republican leader of high standing, and was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 1921, serving one term. He was active in party affairs for a long time, and regarded as having wide influence. In his death the community has lost a good citizen. Funeral services were held last Sunday, August 4th, at 2:00 p.m., in Asbury Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor the Rev. Walter L. Beckwith. Burial was in Asbury Cemetery. Bearers were William Maddox, Isaac Dorsey, Emory Nelson, Allison Hall, Alonzo W. Nelson and Edmund Tull. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Olevia Riggin Nelson, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur H. (Helen) Esterson of Sanford, Fla. and Mrs. James M. (Rachel) Harrison of Princess Anne, a sister, Mrs. Eula Cullen of Crisfield, and four grandchildren.
