Description	:	Harvey Allen Knowles, eldest son of Virgil N. and Martha (Coltrane) Knowles was born near Stockport, Van Buren county, Jan 7, 1866, and passed away suddenly Monday morning, Nov. 3, 1941, at the home of his son, Ralph, in Salem, Oregon, aged 75 years, 9 months, and 27 days. Read More	Harvey Allen Knowles, eldest son of Virgil N. and Martha (Coltrane) Knowles was born near Stockport, Van Buren county, Jan 7, 1866, and passed away suddenly Monday morning, Nov. 3, 1941, at the home of his son, Ralph, in Salem, Oregon, aged 75 years, 9 months, and 27 days. In his boyhood days, he took part with his father's family in the daily tasks of farm life, going to school whenever possible. At the age of 16 he began to learn the carpenter's trade, working with his great-uncle, William Lane. His entire life was one of continuous building. Besides working in his home state, he also worked in Chicago, Florida, California, and Oregon. At the close of his last week of life, his tools had been placed aside only with the thought of starting the new week again. On June 13, 1895, he was united in marriage with Miss Lida Morris at Stockport, Iowa. To this union was born two sons, Elmer R. of Stockport and Ralph A. of Salem Oregon. Besides these he leaves two granddaughters: Mrs. Harold Gardner of Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Robert Johnson of Mt. Union, Iowa; two grandsons: Gordon A. Knowles of Stockport, and Norman L. Knowles, of Salem, Oregon; one great-grandson: Gary M. Gardner, of Washington, D.C.; three brothers: Lafe and John Knowles of Stockport, and Jesse Knowles of Fairfield, Iowa; two sisters: Mrs. Eva Gregory and Mrs. Perry Wilson of Stockport, Iowa; an aged aunt, Mrs. William Coltrane of Humboldt, Kansas, and an aged uncle: Mrs. John Shelman of Salem, Iowa. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Miss Ida Ann Knowles and Mrs. Laura Jemison. Funeral services were held at Stockport Methodist church. Rev. Walter Sieck, the minister in charge, with burial at Spencer cemetery. The pall bearers were Edward Knowles, Lloyd Jemison, Carl Gregory, Harry Lane, Dewey Lane, A. J. Lane.
