Born December 22, 1924 in Charlotte County, Va., he was the son of William Alexander and Anna Mae Dodson, the youngest child of 15. Born December 22, 1924 in Charlotte County, Va., he was the son of William Alexander and Anna Mae Dodson, the youngest child of 15. Harvey is survived by his wife of 62 years, Luzetta of Gum Spring, Va.; one daughter, Linda Sue Smith of Henrico, Va.; two sons, Harvey Wayne of Henrico, Va., and Timothy Andrews of Henrico, Va., their wives, Christina and Lyn; five grandsons, Ming Dodson and his wife Shelley, Alex and Drew Dodson, Benjamin Gangwer and Jock Smith, all from the Richmond and Henrico areas; and a brother, Isaac Dodson and his wife, Boots, of Richmond, Va. He was a decorated wartime veteran of the U.S. Army, 3rd Infantry Division, during the Second World War. During his time in the service, he participated in the North African campaign, the invasion of Sicily, and landed at both Anzio Beach as well as Cavalaire-sur-Mer, France. He was a former police sargeant with the town of South Boston, Va., and retired from the Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control after many years of loyal service. He was an active long term member and deacon of the Parham Road Baptist Church, where he was instrumental in helping the Church recover from a devastating roof collapse. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. February 2, 2010 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road, Richmond. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. February 3, 2010 at Parham Road Baptist Church, 2101 North Parham Road, Richmond, Va., with the Rev. Spencer Dillard officiating. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Veterans Section, 12609 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, Va. Memorial donations may be made to Parham Road Baptist Church.
