Read More	February 26, 1935 Funeral Services for Harvey Breed’n Are Held Today Harvey Mitchel Breeden, born September 19, 1859, died February 23, 1935, age 75 years, 4 months and 4 days. He was the youngest son of John and Margaret Breeden, the first married couple to settle in Hickory Grove township, having migrated here from Ripley county, Indiana. They in turn were children of pioneer stock. Harvey’s great grandfather Ludwick having been a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and his grandfather Breeden a soldier in the War of 1812. Harvey was born under the usual pioneer conditions and passed through a healthy normal childhood. He attended No. 8 school in this township, and joined the Mount Pleasant M.E. church when he was 10 years old. He grew to manhood helping his father. On the 10th of December, 1884 he was united in marriage with Catherine Liesman. They celebrated their golden wedding this past year. To this union were born six children, three boys and three girls: Grace Esther, Perry H., James Albert, Cyrus Field, Alice Frances, and Elizabeth Fay. He was a quiet father and good: a hard working, honorable citizen at all times believing in the right and in that manner conducted his business and taught his children. With the exception of one year in Marshall county and one year in Poweshiek county, Father Breeden spent his life in Hickory Grove township. He farmed, first in Rock Creek District and in 1902 moved to the present home place near Newburg. He is survived by his good wife and all their children, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother, Alfred, a foster brother, Asher, many other kinfolk and friends. The funeral was held this afternoon from the Congregational church at Newburg with Rev. W.B. Wilson in charge. Interment was in the Methodist cemetery. Pallbearers were F.F. Michaels, Roy Walker, Fred Anderson, Glen McCarel, George Mason and Chester Newcomer. A male quartet composed of Ed Newcomer, John Koger, Lloyd Stoakes and Milo Phillips sang.
