MARGUERITTE BREEDEN Mrs. Margueritte Breeden for sixty-two years a resident of Hickory Grove township, Jasper County, Iowa, died at her home in Newburg after an illness of about a week. On the morning of Nov. 21st, she was found in a semi-conscious state as a result of injuries received by a fall which doubtless was the cause of her death. The following obituary was read at her funeral: Margaret Ludwick, daughter of Jacob and Hester Ludwick, was born in Ripley county, Indiana, Sept. 28, 1831, and passed away November 29, 1918, at her home in Newburg, Iowa. She was united in marriage March 9, 1847, to John Breeden, who preceded her to the other world by fourteen years. To this union were born six children, one daughter, Emeline, who died at the age of one year, and five sons, Richard, of Carpenter, Wyoming, John Wesley of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, William J., of Madison, Wisconsin, Alfred J., of Grinnell, Iowa and Harvey M., of Newburg, Iowa; also a foster son, John Asher, of Newburg, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Breeden came to Jasper county, Iowa, in 1856, where they continued to reside. The Breeden home was one of religious influence and the center of social life in those early days. They were prominent members and assisted in the maintenance and work of Mt. Pleasant M.E. church. It is fitting they should now rest amid the scenes of their abundant labors. No stranger or person in need ever applied to them in vain, and often they proved a Good Samaritan to the wayfarer. They were known far and wide for their kindness and hospitality. At the age of 12 years Mother Breeden professed her belief in Christ and for 75 long years served the Master with unwavering faith. She was a great student of the Bible and her familiarity with the Word was well known to all her friends. Two brothers, four sisters, five sons, one foster son, together with their wives, eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren are left to revere her memory. The passing of Mother has taken from a community a woman of character and influence who has led a long and useful life. Brief funeral services were held December 2 at 12:30 o'clock from the home, and an hour later services were conducted by Rev. W.G. Barr, her pastor, at Mt. Pleasant M.E. church of Hickory Grove township, where she was laid to rest in the church cemetery beside her husband and other loved ones. Her sons and their families wish to extend sincere thanks to the many friends for their helpfulness and sympathy at this time of their sorrow and bereavement. Date was hand-written on obituary.
