Description	:	Harvey William Spurgeon, 91, of Keosauqua, died at Van Buren County Hospital. He was born to Glen and Cora Spurgeon. On September 3, 1939, he married Doris Marie Chadwick. Mr. Spurgeon moved to Keosauqua in 1949 and operated Spurgeon's Jewelry. He was a licensed watchmaker for 50 years. He then worked in the Keosauqua post office for 16 years, 10 as postmaster. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a longtime member of Beer-Barker Post No. 113 of the American Legion. He was a 50 year member of both the Eastern Star and Keosauqua Lodge No. 10 AF and AM. He served four years on the City Council and several years on the light plant board and the county veterans board. He served as an elder of the Christian Church and as an assistant leader of the Keosauqua Boy Scout Troop. He was an active member in the Keosauqua Lions Club and Rotary Club. He was recipient of the "Man of the Year" award from the Keosauqua Commercial Club. He received his GED from Indian Hills Community College on June 6, 1972. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Elaine Bozman of Wapello, Lorrain Guy of Washington, and Nancy Rae of Salisbury, Missouri; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gladys Hulen and Irene Johnson, both of Bloomfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. The funeral was held at Pedrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. James H. Wakelin officating. Military rites conducted by Beer-Baker Post No.113.
