Description	:	Was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Garick Hiers; his parents, Haskell Jefferson Hiers, Sr., and Elizabeth Smith Hiers of Ehrhardt and Hopkins; sisters, Louise Miley Hiers and Elizabeth Hiers Price of Columbia; and a brother, Jesse Chappell Hiers, Sr., of Gaffney. After graduating from Ehrhardt High School in 1937, he worked on numerous projects for the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, including Huntington Island State Park. After the war, he worked for the Veterans Administration Regional Office for 40 years. Mr. Hiers was a longstanding member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Columbia where he taught Sunday School and served on the Vestry. He was also a member of the Wofford College 50 Year Club, American Legion Post 6, local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, Five Points Kiwanis Club, and Golden K Kiwanis Club. While a member of the Five Points Kiwanis Club, he delivered meals on wheels and served in the soup kitchen.
