Messick, one of the community's most highly respected matrons, died suddenly in the McCready Hospital Monday morning, where she had been a patient for one day, at the age of 44 years. She had suffered from a heart condition for some time, and an acute attack caused her removal to the hospital for treatment. Born in Crisfield she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nelson. Read More	HATTIE MESSICK DIED MONDAY Mrs. Hattie M. Messick, one of the community's most highly respected matrons, died suddenly in the McCready Hospital Monday morning, where she had been a patient for one day, at the age of 44 years. She had suffered from a heart condition for some time, and an acute attack caused her removal to the hospital for treatment. Born in Crisfield she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Nelson. She had lived here all her life, and was residing in the Byrdtown section at the time of her death. Mrs. Messick was essentially a homemaker. She reared a large family of boys and girls, devoting her time and love to husband and children, and in her quiet way making many friends among her neighbors and those who came to know her, and there has been genuine distress and sorrow because of her death, among the large circle of friends and acquaintances who knew and appreciated her many fine qualities. She rested at the Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home until Wednesday afternoon, when funeral services were held in the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Lawsonia at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Charles Engrem. Interment was in the family lot in Asbury Cemetery. Bearers were Martin Sterling, Jr., Edwin Johnson, Fulton Sterling, Larry Walston, Elmer Cullen and Paul Sterling. Surviving are her husband, John Messick, nine children: Jackie Lee, 20; Ethel, 17; Beatrice, 14; Shelia Jane, 7; Hattie Isabelle, 5; Jerry, 24; Elmer, 15; John Thomas, 12; and William, 9; all of Crisfield; and six sisters: Mrs. Edna Cullen, Mrs. Russell Johnson, Mrs. Addison Nelson, Mrs. Stanford Tyler, Mrs. Howard Lundgren, all of Crisfield, and Mrs. Louis Ward of Marion.
