She was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Margaret Pinto, and the widow of the late George E. Sterling. Born in Crisfield she had spent almost her entire life here. STERLING DIED IN PHILADELPHIA Well Known Lady Died After Short Illness Mrs. Hattie O. Sterling, one of the community's most highly esteemed and beloved residents, died in the Jefferson hospital in Philadelphia last Sunday morning, where she had been a patient for about a week, at the age of 74 years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Margaret Pinto, and the widow of the late George E. Sterling. Born in Crisfield she had spent almost her entire life here. About six months ago she moved to Philadelphia to live with her daughter, Mrs. Carlyle A. Riggin. Apparently in good health until a short time before her death her many friends here were surprised and distressed when it became known that she had passed away. A woman of fine appearance and personality, Mrs. Sterling had always been interested in church work and the affairs of the community. Of an understanding and sympathetic nature she carried cheer into the homes of neighbors and friends when she visited them, and had endeared herself to many persons in all walks of life. In the church she was an energetic worker, and her compassion and helpfulness for those in trouble and distress made her to be beloved. Her body was brought to Crisfield on Sunday evening and reposed at the Hubbard & Covington Funeral Home until Tuesday afternoon, when funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock by her pastor, Rev. J.T. Rowlenson. Interment was in Crisfield cemetery beside the body of her husband. For a number of years she had been an active member of Chesapeake Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and funeral services were held by that organization at the graveside where she was borne to rest by the following members of the Chapter: William S. Sterling, Warren F. Sterling, Layton E. Riggin, A.L. Hardester, W. Frank Daugherty, and Edward M. Milbourne. Mrs. Sterling is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Riggin of Philadelphia, a brother, Joseph H. Pinto of this city, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
