Description	:	Hazel Catherine Cousins, the daughter of Joshua and Susan Jane (Bruner) Cousins, moved with her father and siblings from Nebraska to a farm near Brayton, Iowa when she was four years old, after the death of her mother. Read More	Hazel Catherine Cousins, the daughter of Joshua and Susan Jane (Bruner) Cousins, moved with her father and siblings from Nebraska to a farm near Brayton, Iowa when she was four years old, after the death of her mother. The farm that Joshua bought and they moved to was known as the Heath homestead. Hazel attended school at Oakfield Academy. Hazel's mother's family, the Perry and Mary Matilda Bruner family, moved from Illinois to a place five miles east of Exira, on Troublesome Creek, where they built a log cabin when Susan Jane Bruner was only a year old. So both Hazel and her mother basically grew up in Audubon County. Hazel's father, Joshua Cousins, was born and grew up in Fayette County, Iowa. He moved to Audubon County when he was a young man. Hazel's parents were married at the Littlefield homestead, east of Exira, on 01 January 1884. They became the parents of seven children. They lived for several years on a farm in Nebraska. Hazel's mother, Susan Jane Bruner Cousins died 13 August 1900. She is buried at Gibbon, Nebraska. On 22 January 1905, Hazel's father married Lenore Parrott at Audubon. A daughter, Vera Cousins was born to this union. Hazel's father died in 1941 and her stepmother died in 1947. Both are buried in the Oakfield Cemetery east of Brayton. Hazel married John Calvin Parrott, son of Lewis Milton and Martha Almeada (Heath) Parrott, on 2 February 1914 in Audubon, Iowa. They lived on the farm for one year and then moved to Exira where John went into the produce business. In 1920, they moved to Audubon and began Audubon Produce Company which they operated for over 50 years. Hazel and John were the parents of three children: Gertrude "LaVona", Milton Joshua, and John Calvin, II. Milton died before the age of 2 years during the influenza epidemic and is buried in the Exira Cemetery. Hazel and John joined the Methodist church in Audubon, Iowa in 1925 and were faithful members. Hazel was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Degree of Honor Lodge, the American Legion Auxillary, and was a charter member of the Audubon Garden Club.
