Hallam and Kate H. Steward Hallam, was born in the state of Washington on November 19, 1889. She departed this life at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 21 days, at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, following an extended illness. During her childhood she lived in several different states and localities, due to her father’s occupation as millwright. In each community she made many fiends. In 1909 the family came to Montgomery County, Iowa, and this became their permanent home. As a young woman, Hazel clerked in several Villisca stores, until the time of her marriage. She was married on February 14, 1916 to Curtis Benjamin Holland, who preceded her in death on April 13, 1938. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She was a long and faithful member of the Presbyterian church and of it’s Berean Sunday School Class, until her illness kept her from further activity. Her church, her family and her many friends were her enjoyment in life. She is survived by two daughters, Maxine (Mrs. Lester Scott) and Hortense (Mrs. Kenneth Houck), both of corning. Also surviving are two sons-in-law and five grandchildren, Shirley (Mrs. Richard Hugen), of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Cherl, (Mrs. Larry Archer) of Corning, Lynn Sue Scott of Corning, Jan Holland Houck of Corning and Linda Houch of San Francisco, California.
