Read More	Hazel Irene (Rauch) Smith, age 87, of Decatur, Iowa, was born October 21, 1932, in Grand River, Iowa to Forrest Herndon and Dorothy Lucille (Toney) Rauch. She passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Hazel grew up in Grand River helping on the farm and attending country school through the eighth grade. Later she and her sister, Margaret, worked at Younker’s Tea Room in Des Moines, Iowa. Hazel also worked at Snowdens in Osceola, Iowa. On November 15, 1957, Hazel and Raymond Howard Smith were united in marriage in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Dennis Ray, Steven Eugene, and Marlene Jean. The couple resided in Leon, Iowa before moving to Decatur in December of 1968. They purchased a farm south of Decatur where Hazel was always there working by Raymond’s side. Hazel worked for O’Bryan Brothers and was a personal housekeeper and caretaker of several elderly people. She also did childcare in the 1970’s. She enjoyed being an active member of Eastern Star and White Shrine. Hazel was devoted to her children and grandchildren, always happy to celebrate holidays, lend a helping hand or cook a delicious meal. She thoroughly enjoyed Facebook where she could keep in touch with extended family and see their smiling faces. She would never turn down an offer to go gambling. As Hazel put it, “It’s the only way I can make money!” She loved watching out her window for hummingbirds and talking with friends and family on the phone. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Raymond in January of 1987; son, Steven Smith in August of 2018; and siblings, Tony Junior Rauch, Margaret St. John, Don Rauch, and Jim Rauch. Survivors include her son, Dennis Smith and Limey Spring of Lyford, Texas; daughter, Marlene Perry and husband Richard of Decatur, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kim Smith of Leon, Iowa; grandchildren, Samantha and husband Jonathan Ayers, Thad and wife Angie Smith, Clayton Smith, Rachel and husband Steve Paulus, Renee Perry, and Tyler Perry; great grandchildren, Coltin Lewis, Joselyn McWilliams, Ethan Ayers, Shawn Ayers, Cole Baughman, Alysea Baughman, and Tristen Miller; great, great grandchildren, Aubrie and Adein; sister, Gloria Pierson and husband Don of Wills Point, Texas; brother-in-law, Galen St. John of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; sister-in-law, Karen George of Corydon, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
