She was born March 31, 1918, in Anaconda to Frank Taylor and Maude Olive (Muncaster) Taylor. Hazel was the youngest of three sisters. Her mother Maude died three days after giving birth to Hazel. She was born March 31, 1918, in Anaconda to Frank Taylor and Maude Olive (Muncaster) Taylor. Hazel was the youngest of three sisters. Her mother Maude died three days after giving birth to Hazel. Hazel was raised by her grandmother, Rosella Taylor, and lived in Arlee through the eighth grade. She moved to Big Arm to live with Walter and Martha Askew, her uncle and aunt. She attended high school in Polson and graduated in 1936 and was the class valedictorian. Hazel enrolled at the University of Montana in 1936. There she met Martin L. Huggins and they were married and moved to Walla Walla, Wash., in 1937. Her sons James and Michael and daughter Patti were born in Walla Walla. The family moved to Kalispell in 1946. Hazel loved flowers and gardening in her Kalispell yard. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework. Her special talent was baking pies (particularly raspberry). Oil painting was an interest she developed in her later years. Hazel was a devoted wife and loving mother who especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit and kindness to others. Memories of family picnics in Glacier National Park, picking huckleberries, summer days on Flathead Lake and wonderful holiday dinners will be cherished. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Martin in November 2002. Martin and Hazel were married 65 years. She is survived by her son James M. Huggins and his wife Cheryl of Olympia, Wash.; son Michael D. Huggins and his wife Peggy of Los Angeles; daughter Patti Dwight and her husband Paul of Missoula; and adopted son David A. Graham of La Jolla, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A service honoring Hazel's life will be held in May. Hazel's remains will be interred at the Fairview Cemetery near Columbia Falls on May 8, Mother's Day weekend. Arrangements are under the care of Livingston, Malletta and Geraghty Funeral Home in Missoula.
