Read More	December 1, 1927 - Russell Record Henry Nuss, Sr. Henry Nuss, Sr., passed away at his home in Barton County, north of Hoisington, late Saturday night, November 26, after an illness of several months. Death was caused by cancer. During his illness he was patient and kind to those who did everything humanly possible to help in his recovery to health. But it was the Father's will to take them from his earthly home into the mansions on high. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon. A short service was conducted at the home. Then the body was conveyed to the Lutheran Church at Milberger, where the pastor of the congregation, basing his sermon on the words of holy scripture, Matt. 11:23, "Come unto me all, ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.", spoke words of comfort and admonition. The choir sang two appropriate hymns. In Eckheim, Russia, there came, on December 5, 1865, into the family of Mr. John George Nuss and his wife, Barbara nee Hoffman, a son whom they named Henry. In his early infancy he was consecrated unto the Lord in holy baptism. When 14 years of age he came to this country, accompanied by his parents, three brothers, George, Peter and John and one sister, Kate. On May the 18, 1879 they arrived in Russell County. In the spring of 1880, having received most of his religious instructions from the now sainted John Lohmann, Sr., he was examined by the now sainted Rev. Krause and confirmed. He was then admitted as a communicant member of the church. In 1887, he married Miss Lydia Morgenstern. This union God blessed with four sons, Henry, Ray, Siegmund and Edward, and eight daughters, Johanna, Eugene, Lydia, Paulina, Clara, Rosa, Rachel and Esther. Two sons, Henry and Ed preceded their father to the bliss everlasting. Residing in Russell County for about two years he moved then to his farm in Barton County. Here he spent the remainder of his years, 28 in number. The days of his pilgrimage were 61 years, 11 months and 21 days. He is survived by his sorrowing wife, Lydia, two sons Ray of Barton County, Siegmund of Hoisington, eight daughters, Mrs. Sam Radke, Great Bend; Mrs. Dave Tempel of Cheyenne, Wyo.; Mrs. H. Karst, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Aug. Radke, Hoisington; Mrs. Emil Karst, Barton County; Mrs. C. M. Stafford, Hoisington; Rachel and Esther at home. Thirty-two grandchildren, four brothers and one sister. Interment was made in the Milberger Cemetery.
