Description	:	Henry Kaiser, for 2 years a resident of Waverly, and for 40 years a Bremer County citizen, died Sunday noon. He some time ago suffered from a paralytic stroke and the shock, combined with his old age and other infirmities, caused his death. Henry Kaiser was well known throughout the county and much esteemed by all who knew him. He was one of the old settlers. Henry Kaiser was well known throughout the county and much esteemed by all who knew him. He was one of the old settlers. His birthplace was in Germany, but when he was 25 years of age he was a uniformed Union soldier, fighting for the U. S., having come here in 1855. He was a member of Company "E", 55th Illinois Infantry, and he served honorably throughout the entire Civil War. Henry Kaiser was born December 26, 1836, at Cella, Dhurngen Kreis, Mulhousen, Germany. He was married to Miss Emelie Grollmol, March 24, 1866. They came to Iowa in April 1867 and lived on a farm in Warren Township for 38 years. In April 1905 they moved to Waverly, where they continued to live until Mr. Kaiser's death, September 9, 1906. His age was 69 years, 8 months, and 14 days. Mr. and Mrs. Kaiser were the parents of 11 children, all of whom survive the deceased together with his wife. The daughters are Mrs. Henry Roever, Greene, Iowa; Mrs. Henry Propp, Warren Township; Mrs. Oscar Lehman, Grant County, S.D.; Mrs. Ernest Westendorf, Warren Township; and Miss Minnie Kaiser, residing with her mother. Fred, the youngest son, also resides at home. Henry, Albert, Herman, Conrad, and Will Kaiser all reside in Warren Township. The funeral was held on Tuesday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rev. Father Mulligan officiating. The interment was in Harlington Cemetery and military honors were bestowed by Robbins Post G.A.R., of which the departed had long been a member. Wavery, Iowa Independent and Democrat Newspaper Editor Joe Grave at time of his death wrote "He was a good soldier seeing exceptionally hard service and a great citizen we hate to lose". Enlisted corporal of Co R, 53 IL Inf, discharged for re-enlistment at Larkinsville, Ala Jan 31, 1864, 2nd Enlistment Feb 1, 1864, as 3rd Sgt of Capt Robt Dixons Co E 55 Ill Inf. at age of 26 yrs. Discharged at Little Rock, Ark 8-14-1865.
