Read More	Helen Amalia Filips, age 105 of Crofton, Nebraska, died on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota. Helen was born on July 20, 1908 at Crofton to Thomas A. and Mary (Kuehn) Goetz. She lived her entire life in Crofton, attending St. Rose School until the 10th grade and graduating from Crofton High School in 1926. Helen and Joseph I. Filips were married on March 8, 1934 at Crofton. Helen was a familiar face in several Crofton grocery stores. She started out in her father's store, Kuehn and Goetz Mercantile, and then worked for Marion Everton, some for John Liewer, Buck Johnson and Joe Hanson. She clerked for Kuehn Clothing when it was operated by Joe Kuehn and then his son, Armand. Helen also cooked in the Crofton Public School cafeteria for several years. Helen was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Guild, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America. She was well known for her excellence in baking, cooking and canning. She and her husband loved to fish and Helen always enjoyed time spent with her friends and family. She saw a magnitude of changes and historical events throughout her 105 years spent in Crofton where she touched the lives of many people. Helen is survived by her 4 sons and their wives, March and Eleanor Filips of Crofton; Jim and Cindy Filips of Yankton; Randy Filips of Crofton; Robert and Kelly Filips of Crofton; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on June 8, 1989 at the age of 80, a brother, Henry Goetz and his wife, Lucille and 2 great granddaughters, Riley Filips and Kinley Filips. Pallbearers will be her 10 grandchildren, Mark Filips, Michael Filips, Michelle Filips, Steven Filips, David Filips, Candace Lueders, Andrew Filips, Anthony Filips, Alexander Filips and Austin Filips.
