Description	:	Helen Boyer, a longtime Eureka resident, passed away early on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Derby Health & Rehab in Derby, Kansas. She had been in declining health since 2012. Helen was born August 31, 1927, in the family farm home in Allen County Kansas, the sixth child of Robert Porter and Anna Louise (Kennedy) Stewart. She had been in declining health since 2012. Helen was born August 31, 1927, in the family farm home in Allen County Kansas, the sixth child of Robert Porter and Anna Louise (Kennedy) Stewart. She grew up on a farm with seven siblings and graduated from Humboldt High School. On January 4, 1948, Helen married Joe Boyer in Iola, Kansas. They made their home in Eureka, Kansas. Her main vocation was a life-long homemaker and she also was an activist for mentally challenged individuals. Helen enjoyed playing golf, bridge, selling real estate and doing family vacations with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, her brothers John (Mabel) Stewart, George (Octavia) Stewart, Richard (Arlene) Stewart and her sisters Elizabeth Stewart, Evelyn (Richard) Stitzel, Eleanor (Donald) Baumunk. She is survived by her children Joelen “Jody” Fortier and husband Richard of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, and David Boyer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Jonathan (Lisa) Fortier, Kathryn (Matt) Helfrich, and Ryan (Ashley) Fortier; eight great-grandchildren, Marlee, Eli, Odin, James, Lucy, Charles, Miles, and Julia; all of Pittsburgh; a sibling Naomi Oliphant of Derby, Kansas, and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. We were blessed to have her for 87 years, and she will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She will live forever in our hearts and minds. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, July 31, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and on Saturday, August 1, from 10:00 AM until services begin, at the First United Methodist Church in Eureka. Funeral services, presided by Rev. Kenneth Baker, will be held at 11:00 AM at the Church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 521 N Main St, Eureka, KS 67045; or to TRY Special Needs, Inc., (which serves the mentally challenged), P.O.
