Helen Nelson was born July 7, 1905 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Bert and Ellen (Bengston) Nelson. She was raised in the Essex, Iowa area and graduated from Essex High School. She then attended and graduated from Cottner College in Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked for several years as a librarian before returning to Essex. Helen Nelson was born July 7, 1905 in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Bert and Ellen (Bengston) Nelson. She was raised in the Essex, Iowa area and graduated from Essex High School. She then attended and graduated from Cottner College in Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked for several years as a librarian before returning to Essex. Helen then married Alden Nelson on June 17, 1933 in Page County, Iowa. They lived and farmed all of their lives in Page County until 1972 when Alden passed away. Helen then moved into Red Oak. She was a member of the First Covenant Church. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dayle Swanson. Survivors include her daughter, Karlette Hultman and her husband Donovan of Red Oak, Iowa; grandson, Bret Hultman an this wife Danis of Red Oak, Iowa; granddaughter Kenda Caskey and her husband Troy of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; 2 brother, Riley McClintock and his wife Ella of Essex, Iowa; and Frank Sederburg of Essex, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law, Myrtle Johnson of Essex, Iowa; Eldora May of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Violet Nelson of Kingsman, Arizona; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
