Saienga, 85, of Story City, and formerly of the Le Mars area, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Helen D. Saienga was born July 6, 1923, to Lloyd E. and Martha Delia (Beely) Mauer in Plymouth County, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in 1943 and taught music and second and third grade students in Melvin Public Schools. She and Emory Saienga were married Jan. 26, 1946. In 1950 they moved to rural Hinton, and farmed there until moving to an acreage near Le Mars, Iowa, in 1983. They moved from Le Mars to Story City in December 2007. Helen enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ, needlework, cooking, and writing letters to friends and family. Helen is survived by her husband, Emory; four sons, Richard, Steven, Gene and Scott; a daughter Susan; three sisters, Dorothy, Ruth and Carol; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Mauer; and two sisters, Eloise Meadows and Jane Mauer. "Helen looked forward to meeting her mother who died in childbirth when Helen was born. I feel she has been rewarded by meeting God and being reunited with her mother after 85 years," relates Emory Funeral services will be held on Friday at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. A private burial will be at Baker Township Cemetery near Melvin.
