Description	:	The funeral for Helen E. Deplazes, 96, of Bethany Homes in Fargo was held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Leeds. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died Sept. 5, 2002 at Bethany Homes. Fr. Matt Lanz was celebrant. Gladys Fluge was organist, Wayne Freund was soloist and other music was furnished by the St. Vincent de Paul Choir. Casket bearers were Jeff, Terry and Larry Ganje, Philip Deplazes, Jim Petsinger and bill Thompson. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements. Helen Elvira Huovila was born April 19, 1906 in Perth to John and Amanda Huovila. She moved with her family to Rock Lake, where she grew up. In 1927 she married Alfred Petsinger at Rock Lake. In 1937 they moved to Leeds, where they opened the Red Owl Grocery Store. They later owned the Leeds Locker Plant, Skogmo's Department Store and the Leeds Theater. He died in 1952. In 1958 she married John Deplazes. In 1960 they purchased and operated the Carrington tastee-freeze. In 1964 they returned to Leeds. He died in 1999. She moved to Rest Haven Care Center in Cando and later to Bethany Homes. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and other organizations in Leeds. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Winifred Petsinger of Carrington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mavis and Leonard Ganje of Fargo and Ann and Jack Arneson of Atascadero, Calif.; two stepsons and their wives, John Jr. and Barbara Deplazes of Silver City NM and Philip and Judy Deplazes of Cando; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Eileen and Everett Lalir of Bottineau and Betty and Pete Dix of Cando; a sister and brother-in-law, Olga and Bill Speare of Rugby; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a daughter, Doris Terrell; a sister, Esther; and two brothers, Walt and John.
