He died April 23, 1999 at Resthaven Healthcare Center in Cando. Fr. Matt Lanz officiated. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements. He was raised in Pierce County & attended school there & in St. Cloud, Minn. & Richardton. After his education he farmed in Pierce County. He married Abbie Rose Herda June 12, 1928 in Devils Lake. She died June 10, 1945. He married Helen Petsinger Oct. 8, 1958 at Leeds. They moved to Leeds & later to Carrington, where they operated the tastee-freez. When they retired they moved back to Leeds. He entered Resthaven Healthcare Center in Cando i March of 1998. Survivors include his wife of Cando; 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Betty & Pete Dix of Cando & Eileen & Everett Lahr of Bottineau; 2 sons & daughters-in-law, John N. & Barbara Deplazes of Silver City, NM & Phil & Judy Deplazes of Cando; a stepson, Harold Petsinger of Carrington; 2 stepdaughters, Mavis Ganje of Fargo & Ann Arneson of California; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Leonard Deplazes of Cando & Bernard & Paul Deplazes of Devils Lake; & 2 sisters, Margaret Ely in Wyoming & Sister Mary Alban in Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Abbie; & 10 brothers & sisters.
