She lived her entire life in Chase County, Neb. Helen graduated from Chase County High School in 1938, earning a teaching certificate through the Normal School Training Program. She then taught at a rural elementary school near Champion, Neb., for three years. Helen was married to Basil Dinnel on Nov. 12, 1942, at her parents' home in rural Champion. They lived on the farm near Enders for nearly 30 years before moving to the farm north of Imperial where they lived for more than 20 years. During this time, Helen was active in the local extension clubs, serving as the Chair of the Chase County Extension Clubs in 1970. Helen enjoyed family gatherings and picnics that often included homemade ice cream, homemade popcorn balls, and homemade candy. Her 50th wedding anniversary was especially memorable because all of her children and grandchildren were present and shared many wonderful memories of Helen and Basil. Helen also loved attending any activity in which her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were involved. Even when family members were not involved, Helen still loved attending school activities, especially football games, track meets, music programs, and plays and musicals. She had a great love for children and they returned that love to her in many ways. Helen's favorite hobbies were sewing and embroidery work. She enjoyed making clothes for her grandchildren. Over the last few years of her life, Helen completed quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. She also made embroidered pillows and tea towels for family members. She took great pride in gardening activities, especially in her lawn and flowers. In 1987 on behalf of the John Yost, Sr. family, Helen accepted one of the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Awards from Ak-Sar-Ben and the Nebraska Association of Fair Managers presented to families who maintained the family farm for 100 years or more. This event resulted in a three-day Yost family reunion in which approximately 300 family members attended. Helen is survived by her children: Elaine and husband, Bob Colson, of Imperial, Joyce Kuenning of Imperial, Duane Dinnel and his wife, Beverly, of Wauneta, and Dale Dinnel and his wife, Vivian, of Bellingham, Wash.; her brother, Paul Yost, and wife, Bonnie, of Wauneta; two sisters-in-law, Iona Yost of Wray, Colo., and Dorothy Yost of Kremmling, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Basil; her parents, John and Della Yost; five brothers: Kenneth, Alvin, Lloyd, Willard, and Clifford, and three sisters: Edith Rotz, Velma Corder, and Lela Poindexter. Helen was a member of the Crossroads Wesleyan Church where she accepted Christ as her personal savior. In a recent conversation with her grandson, Brad Dinnel, she expressed great joy at the thought of spending eternal life in Heaven. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church, Imperial, Neb., with Pastor Todd Burpo officiating. Pianist was Sara Behrends and soloist was Jane Greene. Casketbearers were Teak Col-son, Dirk Dinnel, Britt Kuenning, Lance Kuenning, Brad Dinnel, C.J. Kuenning, Riley Colson and Kurt Kuenning. Honorary casketbearers were Dani Gilsdorf, Gina Burbach, Amber Moscrip, Jane Greene, Nikki Dinnel, D.D. Olivas, Misti Kuenning and Sarah Hanson. Interment was at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial.
