Helen Eugenia Larson was born to William Elsworth Bruce adn Mabel Williams Bruce on February 29, 1920, at Geneva. She passed away on July 18, 1993, at the Seward Memorial Hospital in Seward, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 18 days. She was one of three children in the family. Jean, as she was fondly called by family and friends, graduated in 1937 from Geneva High School and was salutatorian of her class. After graduation, she worked as operator for the Lincoln Telephone Company in Geneva. She and Donald Larson were united in marriage on August 20, 1939. To this union there children were born: Richard Lee, Dianne Kay and Larry Donn. They lived in Chelsea Township until the fall of 1983, when they moved into Geneva. Jean was employed at the Youth Development Center for 26 years, retiring in March of 1989. Jean led a very full, active life and enjoyed her family and many friends. She was dearly loved by all the lives she touched and will always be remembered for her sense of humor, zest for life and her kind loving spirit. Her many interest included gardening, reading and traveling. She was active in church and the community activities. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, former deaconess of the church and a member of Ruth Circle. She was also a member of the Geneva Township Extension Club adn the Fillmore County Hospital Auxiliary. SHe and husband, Don, were willing volunteers for Meals on Wheels, through the Geneva Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ben Bruce; and son, Richard Larson. Jean is survived by her loving companion of 53 years, Don; two children, Dianne Heckert of St. Helena, Ca., and Larry Larson and wife, Jean of York, six grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Bauer of Perry, IA. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 22, from the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva with the Rev. Wanda W. Bennett officiating. Mrs. Nancy Cradduck accompanied Delwin V. Myers who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Green, Green Grass of Home". The congregational hymn was "Amazing Grace". Casketbearers were Dan Drayer, Kenneth Lefever, Kent Myers, Kurt Myers, Vaden Myers, Clarence A. Nun Jr., Dale Nunns and Robert Nunns. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery with the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
