Tellinghuisen, 96, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Brookings and rural White, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Good Samaritan Lutheran Manor, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Monday, December 12, 2011 at Rude's Funeral Home, in Brookings, with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Helen F. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Monday, December 12, 2011 at Rude's Funeral Home, in Brookings, with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Helen F. Bortness was born April 26, 1915 to John and Inga (Krogh) Bortness in Brookings County, South Dakota. She graduated from Volga High School in 1932 and attended Eastern State Normal in Madison where she received her teaching degree. After receiving her education, she taught rural school in Brookings and Hamlin County for six years. She was united in marriage to Herman Tellinghuisen on June 28, 1939 in Brookings, South Dakota. After their marriage they farmed in Brookings County until their retirement in 1981. In 1994 they moved into Brookings. Helen and Herman moved to Sioux Falls in 2008. Herman passed away on February 23, 2009. Helen was a member of the First Church of God (Morningside Community Church), the Women's Missionary Society, and Friendly Neighbors Extension Club. She taught Sunday school for 30 years. She especially enjoyed gardening, and took great pride in her flowers. She also liked making crafts, crocheting, sewing, cooking and baking. Everything she did, she did exceptionally well. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them. Helen is survived by her two daughters, Janice (Jerald) Hobbie, of Sioux Falls, SD and Carla (Wally) Holter of Billings, MT; four grandchildren, Kevin (Bobbi Jo) Hobbie, Mark (Kim) Hobbie, Tonya (Ben) Simpson and Ryan Holter ; three great grandsons, Matthew Hobbie, Tyler Hobbie and Brayden Simpson and two step great granddaughters, Mandy and Kali. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Herman, one brother, Charles, one sister, Dorothy, and one great grandson. Contributor: Selma Renèe (50480073)
