Tellinghuisen was born on November 2, 1909 in Brookings County, SD, the son of Wiard and Bena (DeBuhr) Tellinghuisen. He died on Monday, February 23, 2009, at the Edgewood Vista Senior Living Facility in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 99. Herman received his education in rural school in Argo Township, Brookings County, SD. He was united in marriage to Helen Bortness on June 28, 1939, in Brookings, SD. After their marriage they farmed in Brookings County until his retirement in 1981. In 1994, they moved into Brookings. In July of 2007, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD. He was a member of Morningside Community Church in Brookings having served on the board of Trustees. He was also a past member of the NFO, Farmers Union and the Argo #26 School Board. He especially enjoyed music, having been a drummer in the family band. Herman was born on the family farm, having lived there the majority of his life, he took great pride in the appearance of the family farm, and loved working with his Black Angus. Above all, Sunday worship was always a priority in his life. He especially enjoyed having a cup of coffee and homemade goodies with family and friends. Herman is survived by his wife Helen of Brookings; two daughters Janice (Jerald) Hobbie of Sioux Falls, SD, Carla (Wallace) Holter of Billings, Montana; four grandchildren, Kevin (Bobbi Jo) Hobbie, Mark Hobbie, Tonya (Ben) Simpson, Ryan Holter; and two great grandchildren, Matthew Hobbie, and Tyler Hobbie.
