Roth: THE NEBRASKA SIGNAL - Nov. 3, 1993 Helen Fern Albro Helen Fern Albro was born to George Richard Ward and Susan Elizabeth Voigtlander on December 10, 1913, at Geneva, and passed away October 28, 1993 at Heritage Nursing Home in Geneva at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 18 days. She was one of two children in the family. Helen attended District 12 country school through grade eight and continued her education at Geneva High School, where she graduated with the class of 1931. She next attended Doane College in Crete where she studied music. Helen met Lewis Albro at a dance in Geneva. They were united in marriage on October 16, 1937. Lewis was a meat cutter by trade. He and Helen operated the Geneva Locker during World War II. In 1946, Lewis and Helen moved back to the family farm and in December of 1947, they adopted a daughter Carol. They continued farming until Lewis became blind in 1953. In 1972, they retired from the farm and moved to Geneva. Helen's life revolved around the Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a lifelong member and held many offices. She was a third generation member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Helen was a Past Worthy Matron as were her mother, grandmother and daughter. The Madison Township Extension Club was another organization Helen belonged to for many years. She cherished the friendships she made with members of these organizations. Her greatest pride and joy were her three grandsons. She was always there for them and an important part of their lives. From sewing on buttons, to homework, or vacations with Grandpa, her family learned many valuable lessons in life and love through her kindness and gentleness. Helen started making quilts at the age of 12. Many generations have enjoyed the beauty she created in her lifetime. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, George and Susan Ward; brother, Alva (Lewis) Ward. (Sic) She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Richard) Sieber of Geneva; three grandsons, Lewis, Michael and Timothy and six great-grandchildren, Celeste, Timothy, Nina, Matheau, Mason and Tregan. Funeral services were conducted from the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva on Saturday, October 30, with the Rev. Wanda Bennett officiating. Nancy Cradduck accompanied the congregation who sang "Amazing Grace" and Gaylord Cradduck who sang "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". Casket bearers were Don Ward, John Ward, Percy Aspegren, Dan Aspegren, Don Dunkin and Jesse Richards. Eastern Star services were provided by Chapter 180 Order of the Eastern Star. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery with Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements Memorials are directed to the Congregational Church or the Order of the Eastern Star.
