She was born January 19, 1924 on a farm in Franklin County, Indiana to Roy and Josephine (Quinlan) Quinlan. She attended a one-room school (Terry) for 8 years and graduated from Brookville High School in 1942. Except for living 2 years in Wisconsin, she spent her entire life in Franklin County. On November 26, 1942, Helen married Howard Stewart. He died suddenly in January, 1963 while attending a square dance. On June 7, 1968 she married James Manley, who survives. She was a member of the Brookville Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a past member of the Republican women, the Eastern Star, and was a past 50 year member of Tri-Kappa. Helen had been a bookkeeper for Gillman Construction Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, and especially enjoyed working with children. Helen was a former Cub Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and had been active in the church Sunday school. Besides her husband of 46 years, James Manley, she is survived by a son, Gene Stewart and his wife Becky of Brookville; a daughter, Nancy Stewart Hemmer of Cincinnati; step-daughter, Debra Manley Davis and husband Denver of Muncie; grandson Matt Stewart and wife Kelley, granddaughter Ashley Dozier and husband Isiah, both of Brookville; a step-grandson, Aaron Davis and wife Alex of San Antonio, Texas; step-granddaughter, Rachael Schuck and husband Andy of Muncie; 6 great grandchildren, Avery Kelly, Taylor Stewart, Morgan Stewart, Kamryn Dozier, and Carter Dozier, all of Brookville, and Vanessa Davis of San Antonio. Besides her parents and first husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Quinlan of Connersville. Visitation will be from 10 to 12 noon on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. Pastor Curtis Bond of the Brookville Methodist Church, will officiate the funeral service at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
