Read More	BELOVED WOMAN PASSES AWAY Mrs Helena Mierau Died Last Thursday at Hospital After a Long Illness God's Angel of Death claimed another loved soul of this community when Mrs. Helena Mierau was called to the Great Beyond last Thursday noon at the Halstead Hospital, following an illness of four months which terminated in pneumonia. Grandmother Mierau, as she was affectionately known by many in this community had been in poor health the past several years at the home of her son John J. Miearu where she received kind and loving care from both Mr. and Mrs. Mierau. Late in August she experienced a fall which fractured her right hip, and her condition became such that she was taken to the Halstead Hospital where she remained until death claimed her at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 16 days. Mrs. Mierau was a quiet, and unassuming soul, who filled her place as a faithful wife and mother in the home until death called her husband, Henry Mierau in 1890, and her son Dietrich K. in 1924 with whom she had made her home. Following his passing she was taken into the home of her son John J., where she remained untio her fall last August. She was a devout member of the Halstead Mennonite Church since 1895, and it was because of frail health and advanced age that she did not attend services regularly during the past few years. Quietly she sat in her home meditating upon the love of her God in whom she had a child-like faith and love. Her life was not without its bitter experience, but through it all she remained cheerful and courageous. Helena Mireau, nee Helen Kroker was born Dec. 18, 1848 in Tiegen , South Russia, where she spent her early life. In the year 1860 she was baptized and received into the Mennonite Church. On May 28, 1868 she was united in marriage with Henry Mierau who preceded her in death in 1890. In the year 1885, she with her husband and children came to America to make their home near Hillsboro, Kansas. Mourning her departure are three children: William H. of Wichita, John J. and Mrs John Will of this city; eleven grand-children and six great grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Halstead Mennonite Church with Rev. H. T. Unruh officiating. The beautiful floral offerings were numerouis as a token of love and esteem in which this good woman was held and the church was filled with relatives and friends who wished to pay their last respects to the deceased.
