Mohler, Former Resident Here, Hurt First Page county traffic fatality of 1957 was recorded when Mrs. Darrell Potter, 30, Route 3, Bedford, died at the Municipal Hospital at 2 a.m. last Thursday of head injuries suffered in a two car collision at county road intersection three miles north of Hawleyville Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. Two others were hospitalized as result of the near head-on crash. Mr. Potter, 35, driver of one car, suffered a fractured rib and lacerations, according to an attending physician. B. W. Mohler, 58, Clarinda rural mail carrier; suffered a compound fracture of the knee and minor lacerations. Both men are in satisfactory condition. (Mohler is a former resident and R.F.D. carrier of Bedford.) The State Highway Patrol reported that Mr. and Mrs. Potter were driving north. Mr. Mohler on his mail route was turning south from the east when the collision occurred at the icy intersection. Both the 1953 Chevrolet and 1954 Pontiac driven by the mail carrier were total losses. Mrs. Potter is survived by her, husband; a son, Marvin, 11; her parents Mr. and Mrs. Will McDonald of New Market; two brothers, Robert McDonald of Albuquerque, N. Mex., and Billy McDonald, of New Market; and two sisters, Mrs. Lewis B. Wells of Clarinda and Mrs. Duane Thomas of Hamburg. The Potter home is approximately a mile northeast of Siam. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 4 at the Walker Funeral Home, Clarinda, and burial was in the Siam cemetery. ----Clarinda Herald-Journal [Potter, Helen Louise McDonald] Bedford Times-Press Thursday February 21, 1957 p. 10 Obituary – Mrs. Darrell Potter Helen Louise McDonald, daughter of Will [iam Henry] and Nell [Dean Wubker] McDonald, was born at Coin, Iowa March 12, 1926. She lived in Page County until she was 13 years of age when the family moved to a farm southeast of New Market. On December 31, 1943, she was married to Floyd Darrell Potter. To this union, one son, Marvin Ray, was born. She departed this life Thursday, Jan. 31, 1957 at the Clarinda Municipal hospital as the result of a car accident north of Hawleyville. At the time of her passing she was 30 years, 10 months, 19 days of age. Helen Louise united with the United Presbyterian Church in College Springs when she was 12 years of age. Later, she transferred her membership to the Clarinda United Presbyterian Church, where her membership was retained until she passed away. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Darrell; son, Marvin Ray, of near Siam, RFD Bedford; her parents Will and Nell McDonald, New Market; two brothers, Robert McDonald of Albuquerque, N. M. and William Paul McDonald, New Market; two sisters, Ruth Wells of Clarinda, Martha Thomas of Hamburg.
