Description	:	Helen Louise Freese, age 93, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Otto and Hulda (Nordman) Ulrich on January 25, 1925, at their home southeast of Clarksville. Growing up, Helen helped with cooking, gardening and taking care of her sisters. She learned to sew, crochet and embroidery, which lead to sewing for others after her graduation. Helen graduated from Clarksville School in 1942. She was hired at the Canning Factory to measure sugar, baking powder and salt into coal buckets while others were hand shucking the sweet corn. Read More	Helen Louise Freese, age 93, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Otto and Hulda (Nordman) Ulrich on January 25, 1925, at their home southeast of Clarksville. Growing up, Helen helped with cooking, gardening and taking care of her sisters. She learned to sew, crochet and embroidery, which lead to sewing for others after her graduation. Helen graduated from Clarksville School in 1942. She was hired at the Canning Factory to measure sugar, baking powder and salt into coal buckets while others were hand shucking the sweet corn. Later, Helen took over the shucking job. She was also a hired girl for Harold and Elsie Deike, and others in and around the Clarksville area. While working for the Deike family, she met Irvin Freese and the romance began. The couple double dated with her sister, Ella and Simon Christians. Simon and Irvin said they were going down the aisle only once so they had a double wedding on December 8, 1946, at Immanuel Reformed and Evangelical Church in Clarksville. After they married, Helen and Irvin rented a farm south of Greene along with Irvin’s parents. They farmed there until 1973, when that farm was sold. They then moved to a farm east of Clarksville until they retired in 1986. Helen and Irvin rented until they purchased their home in Clarksville. Helen enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, gardening and crocheting. She also cut and sewed many blankets for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She always enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After Irvin passed away on November 6, 2000, Helen remained in her home until November 2014. She then moved to Clarksville Assisted Living. In January 2017, Helen entered Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Helen died Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clarksville of natural causes. She is proceeded in death by her husband of almost 54 years, Irvin; parents; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Ella (Simon) Christians, Arlene (Bob) Pierce and Leona and Arnold Ulrich who died in infancy; and great granddaughter, Cora Rose Crawford. Helen is survived by three children, five grandchildren, one step grandson, many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Immanuel Church of Christ, with burial in the Linwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family
