Description	:	Helen Loyd (Strohmier) Siebert, age 87, of Brookville, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at Caroleton Manor in Connersville, where she had been a resident since March of 2006. Born March 15, 1920 in Whitewater Township, Franklin County, Indiana, the oldest daughter of the late Elmer & Lydia (Stout) Strohmier. She received her BS from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in Elementary Education. Read More	Helen Loyd (Strohmier) Siebert, age 87, of Brookville, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at Caroleton Manor in Connersville, where she had been a resident since March of 2006. Born March 15, 1920 in Whitewater Township, Franklin County, Indiana, the oldest daughter of the late Elmer & Lydia (Stout) Strohmier. She received her BS from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in Elementary Education. Upon graduation she taught two years in Blooming Grove and forty years at Brookville Elementary School primarily in the 2nd grade, where she retired at the age of 70. She established and taught the first private kindergarten in Franklin County in her home for several years before kindergarten became part of the public school curriculum. As a 68 year active member of Beta Eta Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority, Helen served as past president and was a part of a four generation legacy beginning with her mother and ending with her granddaughter. She was also an active member of the Brookville United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women; Brookville Women's Club, Franklin County Historical and Preservation Society, Franklin County Arts Council, and the Indiana Teacher's Association. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening at her 100 year old Siebert homestead, where she received the Garden of the Month award by the Brookville Garden Club. On January 20, 1943 she was united in marriage to John F. Siebert, and he preceded her in death on July 9, 1983. She lived her entire life in Franklin County with a brief stay in Texas during World War II, with her husband, before his deployment in the Air Force to Europe. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas & Gayle Siebert of Connersville, Indiana and Jeffrey & Judy Siebert of Brookville, all who followed the teaching profession. She has three grandchildren Scott Siebert of Connersville, and Ryan & wife Erin Siebert of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Kristen Siebert of Brookville; one great-granddaughter Olivia Siebert of Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister, June (Strohmier) Bruns Vance of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and seven nieces and five nephews. Family & friends may visit from 4 till 7:00 P.M., on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 10:00 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, with burial following in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville. Memorial Contributions are being directed to the Franklin County Community Foundation.
