Helen Bensch was born Oct. 14, 1905 at Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Josephine Strueser Bensch. She received her education in the Cascade, Iowa schools. She was married to Otto Otten April 18, 1921 at Monticello. The couple made their home in the Monticello community, where Otto worked for the railroad. Helen was employed at the dime store 1942-1952 and later at Georgia Pacific until she retired in 1970. She had been a member of the Monticello Chapter of the Pythian Sisters. Helen is survived by her husband, a son Bob Otten of Cedar Rapids and three daughters, Betty Siebels of Bernard, Sally Hawker and Minnie Stogdill, both of Monticello; 14 grandchildren, 21 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Selma Hartman of Cedar Rapids and Esther Anderson of Monticello and a brother, Alfred Bensch of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, two grandsons, one greatgranddaughter and two brothers. Casketbearers were Jack Siebels, Jim Siebels, Jim Zimmerman, Larry McDonald, Dick Freeze, Ken McMullen, Doug Hawker, Blaine Waychoff, Bob Stogdill and Larry Stogdill. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the arrangements.
