Pleasant Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD PALLBEARERS~ Bill Flaten, Steve Jastram, Steve Olsen Helen Margaret Beneke, daughter of Fred and Dora (Steinfadt) Beneke, was born December 29, 1922 in LeMars, IA. In 1929 she moved with her family to a farm near Luverne, MN. They moved into Luverne in 1933. Helen graduated from Luverne High School in 1940. She then graduated from Minneapolis Business College, Minneapolis, MN before working at Hardware Mutual Insurance Company. She moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1946 and began work in the office at John Morrell and Company. Helen was united in marriage with Bert E. Flaten at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls on June 3, 1950. Helen continued work with Morrell's for several years until the couple started their family in 1954. Helen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bert; two children, Cindy Thomas, Minneapolis, MN, Jeffrey Flaten and his wife, Carol, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Nicky Logan Dice, Paul Flaten, Curt Flaten, Rachel Flaten; two brothers, Charlie Beneke, Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry Beneke and his wife, Beth, Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Eva Lou Olson. Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at Zion Lutheran Church following the committal service. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to their "Special Angels", Bev from Zion Lutheran Church and Nurses Joan, Georgia, Mary and the rest of the Avera McKennan Hospital Staff.
