She attained the age of 97 years, 3 months and 7 days. Helen Siepkes was born Feb. 27, 1908 on a farm south of Lennox, the daughter of Peter and Jennie (Groen) Murra. She attended school at Sunnyside District #75. Being one of the older of 12 children she helped at home and worked out for several of the neighboring families. On Feb. 20, 1930 she was united in marriage to Louis H. Siepkes at Delaware Parsonage, rural Lennox. Following their marriage they farmed south of Lennox. In 1974 they retired and moved into Lennox. Her husband died Mar. 1, 1994, ending a marriage of over 64 years. She remained in her own home until two weeks ago. Helen was a lifelong member of Delaware Reformed Church and Ladies Aid. She played the organ and sang in choirs and also directed the choir in the late 40's and early 50's. She was also a member of two Birthday Clubs and the Lennox Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed the noon meals, quilting, until her eyesight failed, and playing cards and visiting. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters and two great-granddaughters. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Ray Bunjer of Lennox; her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Larry (Lori) Bunjer, Sharen Bunjer, Diane (Joel) Begeman, Carla (Roland) Krumbach, Lori (Brad) Atkins and Lisa (Bruce) Shay; 15 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Michelle Bunjer, Mitch, MeLeah and Mallory Ketcham, Jeremy (Amanda), Jenni and Jodi Begeman, Miles and Emily Krumbach, Ganeene Shank and Josh Atkins, Nick, Jessica and Chris Wolthuis; step-great-grandchildren: Tyler and Teresa Shay; great-great-grandchildren: Jack Begeman and Striker DeHaven; step-great-great-grandchildren: Tanner Frank and Jazzmine Shay; special nieces: Mary (Harold) Fischer and Ruth (Arnold) Beck; sister-in-law: Dorothy Murra; nieces, nephews and many friends.
