Helen was born on August 27, 1933, in Cedar County, Iowa to Earl and Clara (Dauber) Nighbert. She grew up in Tipton, Iowa. Helen attended Springdale and West Branch, Iowa, schools. Helen was united in marriage to Melvin LeRoy Sissel on June 9, 1951 at Rochester, Iowa. They made their home in Tipton then moved to Swisher, Iowa, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lincoln, Neb., North Bend, Neb. and finally Lewellen, Neb. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed at People's Bank and Trust in Cedar Rapids and Lincoln Laminating in Lincoln, Neb. Helen and Mel purchased a bowling alley in North Bend in 1975 they named Sissel Bowl. Upon retirement, Helen and Mel enjoyed camping and playing cards. She was an avid gardener and appreciated a good garage sale. Helen loved her family and the company of her many friends. She and Mel moved to Riverview Assisted Living in Lewellen in the Fall of 2006. Helen is survived by her husband, Melvin Sissel of Oshkosh; sons, Wayne and wife Lea Sissel of Broomfield, Colo., Kyle and wife Paula Sissel of Oshkosh, and Darroll and wife Kathy Sissel of North Bend, Neb.; six grandchildren, Karly Sissel, Jessica Rinaker, Christopher Sissel, Blake Sissel , Ashley Sissel, and Sean Sissel; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Sissel, Reese Rinaker and Amaya Ronk; brother, DeWayne Nighbert; sisters, Nadine Pfister, Marilyn Sexton and Carol Small; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
