VON HAGEL DIED SATURDAY Plymouth County Pioneer Had Been Invalid For 18 Years Helena Johanna Von Hagel widow of the late John Von Hagel, a resident of Plymouth county since pioneer times and an invalid for the past 18 years, died Saturday morning. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at St. John’s Lutheran church, Rev. J. J. Vollmar in charge. At 3 p.m. services will be held in Grant township, Rev. J. D. Meyers in charge. Burial in Grant township, Beelys service. Mrs. Von Hagel was born March 23, 1860, in Reepsholt, Ostfriesland, Germany. She came to the United States in 1881 and was married the same years, in Grant township. They farmed there until 1909 when they retired and came to LeMars. Deceased was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church and St. John’s Lutheran aid society. Five children were born, of who four survive: Gerd, of Grant township; Mrs. Herman HEEREN OF Grant; Mrs. Henry Lammers of Madelia, Minn.; Mrs. John Wilken of Chatsworth. Lemars Le Mars Globe Post Monday, September 7, 1931 Lemars, Iowa OLD RESIDENT SUFFERED LONG MRS. J. H. VON HAGEL, HAD BEEN AN INVALID MANY YEARS Mrs. John H. Von Hagel a pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died at her home in this city Saturday, Deptember 5. Mrs. Von Hagel had been an invalid for many years. Her husband, John Heinrich Von Hagel, died just on year ago. He was a prominent farmer in Grant township many years and in the later years of his life was a well known insurance man in this city. Mrs. Von Hagel was born at Riepsbott, Ost Friesland, Germany, on March 23, 1860, where she grew to young woman. Her maiden name was Helena Ludwigs. She became acquainted with John Von Hagel, who lived in the same neighborhood. He moved to America in 1875 and in 1881 returned to his native place and claimed Helena Ludwigs as his bride. They located in Grant township where they lived until 1909, when on account of the poor health of Mrs. Von Hagel they moved to town and have lived here ever since. Mrs. Von Hagel was a good Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother and friendly neighbor. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church and of the Ladies Aid society of that congregation. Five children were born to them four of whom ar eliving; Gerd Von Hagel, on the old home farm; Mrs. John Lammers, Madelia, Minn.; Mrs. John Wilken of Chatsworth, Minn., and Mrs. Herman Heeren of LeMars. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1:30 in St John’s Lutheran church, Rev. Jo. J. Vollmar officiating. A service will be held at 3 o’clock in Christ church at Mammen where the deceased was a member in earlier years. Rev. J. D. Meyer, the pastor, will conduct a brief service.
