Description	:	Hellen Berreth, daughter of Henry and Freida (Boettcher) Berreth, was born on December 29, 1932 at Wakpala, SD. Her family moved to Bowdle, SD for a short time then settled in Aberdeen. Hellen went on to graduate from Aberdeen Central High School in 1951. She participated in baseball, basketball and cheerleading. Hellen was introduced into the Assembly of God Church by her friend Ruby Kent. Read More	Hellen Berreth, daughter of Henry and Freida (Boettcher) Berreth, was born on December 29, 1932 at Wakpala, SD. Her family moved to Bowdle, SD for a short time then settled in Aberdeen. Hellen went on to graduate from Aberdeen Central High School in 1951. She participated in baseball, basketball and cheerleading. Hellen was introduced into the Assembly of God Church by her friend Ruby Kent. At the age of 15, Hellen was in the church basement when she looked up the stairway and saw her future husband LeRoy, who was 14 years of age, and who she continued to look up at for 66 years. The couple was married at the Assembly of God Church on June 7, 1952. The couple lived on the family farm until LeRoy was drafted into the Army and served in Korea. Hellen and their young daughter, Diana lived with Hellen’s parents in Washington state while LeRoy was gone. Upon his return, the family farmed four miles south of the Marvin Ham farm. The couple welcomed a son Larry and later a daughter Marcia to their family. They then farmed one mile west of the family homestead and welcomed a son Brian into their lives. They obtained the Marvin Ham farm in 1964 and added their last child Kevin to the family. Hellen was a “city girl” adapting easily to the farm life. She nurtured many hearts and souls, often with a pat, a hug or a prayer. Hellen was active in her church serving as a Sunday school teacher, singing in the choir and being active in the Women’s Ministries. Hellen also worked as a Nurse’s Assistant in the float pool at St. Luke’s Hospital, retiring after 13 years of service. When the couple retired from the farm, selling it to their son Brian, they exchanged homes and moved to Barnard. Hellen and LeRoy enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and Canada. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and embroidery. Over the years she made countless quilts and kitchen towels to share. Hellen also enjoyed attending her families sporting and musical activities. Hellen gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age, showing kindness and compassion to all those around her. Hellen was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Freida Berreth; son, Brian Ham; and siblings, Alvina, Edwin, Mary and Ervin. [Excerpts from Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, Aberdeen, SD]
