Biography from the 1883 "History of Iowa - Franklin and Cerro Gordo Counties": Heman Murray Redington Heman Murray Redington was a pioneer farmer of Cerro Gordo county, where he located in 1855 on section 8, Falls township. Soon after he moved to section 7, where he died in 1866. He was born Nov. 25, 1796, in the State of New York, and was married in 1819 to Christiania Auringer, also a native of New York, born in 1799. In 1842, the family moved to Illinois, where Mr. Redington bought a farm in Boone county, where he resided until he moved to Iowa. Mrs. Redington yet survives and lives with her daughter at Rock Falls. Two sons, Martin and William, are residents of the same village. The first (Martin) was the pioneer blacksmith of the town. A daughter, Clarissa Redington, was married in 1854 to James Wright and settled in Falls. James died in 1859 in Kansas. His widow (Clarissa) was married in 1863 to John D. Massey, the proprietor of the hotel at Rock Falls. Found in the 1820 census living at Otisco, Onondaga, New York. Found in the 1830 census at Antwerp, Jefferson, New York. From 1836 - 1838, lived near Texas, New York. Found in the 1840 census at Ira, Cayuga, New York: 6 people counted - 2 adults and 4 children? 1 age 5-9; 1 age 15-19; 2 - 10-14. 1842: family moved to Boone, Illinois Found in the 1850 census at Manchester, Boone, Ilinois: H M Reddington 53, Christian Reddington 42, Wm F Reddington 19. Bought 40 acres and was issued a land patent at Fort Des Moines, IA on October 15, 1855: Bought the NE quarter of the NW quarter of Section 8 of Township 97 North, Range 19 West. Cash entry. Found in the 1856 census at Falls, Cerro Gordo, Iowa with wife and son William. Says he and William are farmers. Herman M Redington age 58. Found in the 1860 census at Plymouth, Falls, Cerro Gordo, IA with wife and grandson, George Wright. Haman Redington age 62. Herman Redington died December 31, 1866 at Plymouth, Falls, Cerro Gordo, Iowa. Have also found a death date of December 29, 1865 but think the 1866 one is correct. Suggested edit: That his first name was Heman is attested in two published genealogies: (1) William B. Murray, The Descendants of Jonathan Murray of East Guilford, Connecticut, pp. 18-26, 52 (1957) and William Cushman Anderson, Genealogy: Cushman, Anderson, Auringer, pp. 17-18 (1900).
