Mrs. John Lanspa, who passed away suddenly at her home in David City Thursday morning, July 5, at 7:15 o'clock, had been a respected resident of Butler county 32 years, five years of that time residing in David City. Death came as a culmination of an illness contracted three years ago in February, the illness affecting her heart. There was very large attendance of sympathizing friends of the family at the funeral services in St. Mary's Catholic church Saturday morning, July 7, at 10:30 o'clock, the attendance including a large number of friends from Center township, where Mrs. Lanspa resided for 27 years. Mrs. Lanspa was a devoted member of St. Mary's church and the church socities of which she was a member were in attendance as organizations. Solemn Requiem Mass was enchanted by Rev. Father Sproll, celebrant, Rev. Father Kadeck, deacon, and Rev. Father O'Sullivan, subdeacon. A special choir, Mrs. Antonette Hansen, Misses Josephine Kreisinger, Mary Considine, Margaret Graff and Ella Smith, Dr. W. F. Gilmore and John Behrens, sand, Mrs. August Smith at the organ. Following the church ceremony the remains were taken to the family home to await arrival of relatives from a distance to attend the burial. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery on Sunday, July 8, at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Father Sproll conducting religious ceremony at the grave. The pallbearers were Theodore Brochtrup, Charles Brochtrup, E. J. Dworak, B. H. Eiting, John Fox, Jacob Reisdorf and Peter Vanderheiden. In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Miss B. Vandenberg from Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. George Vandenberg and Mrs. John Vandenberg and Mr. and Mrs. Eisel from Kearney, Jacob Vandenberg and Louis Vandenberg from Spalding, Miss Josephine Brochtrup from Colon, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Belford from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Miss Anna Reisdorf from Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Kuhnel from Gresham, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schlickbernd from Beemer, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Litty from Brainard. Mrs. Lanspa was born in Hollandtown, Wis., July 14, 1871, and was united in marriage to John Lanspa April 15, 1890, in Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Lanspa came to Nebraska and Butler county in 1891, residing on a farm in Center township until 1918, when they moved to David City. To Mr. and Mrs. Lanspa nine children, four daughters and five sons, were born, Mrs. T. A. Belford of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mrs. J. B. Brochtrup of David City, Mrs. A. E. Kuhnel of Gresham, Miss Henrietta Lanspa of David City, Wilfred Lanspa of Center township, Olas, Joseph, Clarence and Donald Lanspa of David City. Mrs. Lanspa is survived by her husband, and the nine children, and by her father, Nicholas Vandenberg, of Hollandtown, Wis., and five sisters and five brothers. This tribute to Mrs. Lanspa is contributed by a friend who had known her for many years. "During the time Mrs. Lanspa made her home in Center township and during her residence in David City her sterling qualities secured for her a warm place in the heart of the community.
