Description	:	Henrietta Marie Schwiesow Franz was born January 22, 1917 to Henry and Marie (Springer) Schwiesow on a farm northeast of Chamberlain, South Dakota, one of twelve children to bless that union. Etta attended country school for eight years. Her father died of cancer when she was eight years old, and it was necessary for Etta to help on the farm and find part-time employment. She later went to Sioux Falls and worked at the country club and did domestic housework for some of the country club members. Read More	Henrietta Marie Schwiesow Franz was born January 22, 1917 to Henry and Marie (Springer) Schwiesow on a farm northeast of Chamberlain, South Dakota, one of twelve children to bless that union. Etta attended country school for eight years. Her father died of cancer when she was eight years old, and it was necessary for Etta to help on the farm and find part-time employment. She later went to Sioux Falls and worked at the country club and did domestic housework for some of the country club members. One August night Etta went to the Neptune Park dance pavillion southwest of Sioux Falls. At that same time, Marvin Franz was going to Augustana College during the days and worked for John Morrell Company on the night shift. He got off work early one night and decided to go to Neptune Park. He picked out the best looking girl that appealed to him and asked her to dance. Etta and Marvin believed that God brought them together. They were married January 1, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls and were happy together for over 65 years. Marvin later went to work for John Deere Company, Omaha, Nebraska at the Sioux Falls branch house. While Marvin served in the United States Navy during World War II, Etta and their son Robert lived in Sioux Falls. After Marvin returned home from his tour of duty, Etta, Marvin and sons moved to Schaller in August, 1950 to go into the John Deere dealership business. Etta was a full-time homemaker and enjoyed gardening, card clubs, and church activities. Etta and Marvin enjoyed traveling to all 48 continental states, plus Hawaii in 1969 and Alaska in 1982, the Bahamas in 1966, and Germany, Switzerland and Austria in 1990, where they attended the passion play presented every decade at Oberammergau. After encountering health problems in 1994, Etta went to live at Colonial Manor in Odebolt. Marvin drove every day it was possible from Schaller to Odebolt to spend time with Etta while she was at Colonial Manor. Survivors include her husband, Marvin; two sons, Robert and wife Maureen Franz of Faribault, MN and Raymond and wife Jackie Franz of Schaller; one daughter, Pamela Franz of Storm Lake; four grandchildren: Nacelle and husband Joseph Winrich of Salem, MA, Daniel Franz of Duluth, MN, Kristine Franz and Debra Franz of Fort Dodge, IA; two great-grandchildren: Abby and Ben Winrich of Salem, MA; one brother Leaman and wife Jean Schwiesow of Madison, SD; and two sisters: Lucile Shovly of Madison, SD and Delpha Haselquist of Yorba Linda, CA; and many other friends and relatives. Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Karl, Harry, Sylvester, Sidney and Martin; and sisters Meta, Elthie and Regina.
