Description	:	Marvin A. Franz was born November 14, 1916 to Amil and Edna Grace (Wilson) Franz in Frankfort, South Dakota, one of nine children to bless that union. He was baptized in the Frankfort Methodist Church. Marvin attended elementary and high school in Frankfort, graduating in 1934. He then attended college for a year at Heron, South Dakota and a year at Augustana College. Franz was born November 14, 1916 to Amil and Edna Grace (Wilson) Franz in Frankfort, South Dakota, one of nine children to bless that union. He was baptized in the Frankfort Methodist Church. Marvin attended elementary and high school in Frankfort, graduating in 1934. He then attended college for a year at Heron, South Dakota and a year at Augustana College. During the time Marvin was going to Augustana, he went to school during the days and worked for John Morrell Company on the night shift. He got off work early one August night and decided to go to Neptune Park southwest of Sioux Falls, where he ended up at the dance pavilion. He picked out the best looking girl that appealed to him and asked her to dance. That girl was Henrietta "Etta" Schwiesow. Etta and Marvin believed that God brought them together that night. They were married January 1, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls and were happy together for over 65 years. Marvin later went to work for John Deere Company, Omaha, Nebraska at the Sioux Falls branch house, where he was Parts Territory Manager. While Marvin served in the United States Navy during World War II, Etta and their son Robert lived in Sioux Falls. After Marvin returned home from his tour of duty, Etta, Marvin and sons moved to Schaller in August, 1950 to go into the John Deere dealership business. He was a partner in Weimers and Franz Implement in Schaller until 1957 when Mr. Weimers died. The business was known as Franz Implement from that time forward, until Marvin retired in 1984. Marvin was a devoted husband and father, holding his family and the time spent with them close to his heart. Family vacations were always a wonderful memory he cherished. Marvin and Etta enjoyed traveling to all 48 continental states, plus Hawaii in 1969 and Alaska in 1982, the Bahamas in 1966, and Germany, Switzerland and Austria in 1990, where they attended the passion play presented every decade at Oberammergau. Marvin enjoyed working with electronical devices, making 8mm movies, being the family photographer and talking on citizen's band radios. After encountering health problems in 1994, Etta went to live at Colonial Manor in Odebolt. Marvin drove every day it was possible from Schaller to Odebolt for the next 9 years to spend time with Etta while she was at Colonial Manor. Survivors include his two sons, Robert and wife Maureen Franz of Faribault, MN and Raymond and wife Jackie Franz of Schaller; one daughter, Pamela Franz of Storm Lake; four grandchildren: Nacelle and husband Joseph Winrich of Townsend, VT, Daniel Franz of Duluth, MN, Kristine Franz and Debra Franz of Fort Dodge, IA; two great-grandchildren: Abby and Ben Winrich of Townsend, VT; one brother John Franz of Yelm, WA; sisters Ruth Bauer of Sheldon, IA, Cleo Roberts of Sun City, AZ, Evelyn Madden of Littleton, CO and Gwendolyn and husband John Young of Tacoma, WA; one brother-in-law Leaman and wife Jean Schwiesow of Madison, SD; and four sisters-in-law: Lucile Shovly of Madison, SD, Delpha Haselquist of Yorba Linda, CA, and Dorothy Franz of Tacoma, WA; and many other friends and relatives. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta just one month ago, his parents, and his brothers Russel, Rolland and Franklin
