Description	:	Henrietta Anna Gropp, (also known as Emma Gropp) was born June 5, 1862, at Insterburg, Germany, the daughter of Martin and Dorothy Pritzkat, and departed this life on Thursday evening, January 6, 1955, at the age of 92 years, seven months and one day. Read More	Henrietta Anna Gropp, (also known as Emma Gropp) was born June 5, 1862, at Insterburg, Germany, the daughter of Martin and Dorothy Pritzkat, and departed this life on Thursday evening, January 6, 1955, at the age of 92 years, seven months and one day. She was brought to her Savior in infancy and was made a member of His Kingdom of Grace through baptism. At the age of 13 years she renewed her baptismal covenant in confirmation. From her home in Europe she made the journey alone, to Western Kansas in 1893 when she was 30 years of age and was joined in marriage on April 6 of that year to John Samuel Gropp. Her children by this marriage are: Myrtle, of Nyssa, Oregon; Richard, of Lakin; George and Emma, of Deerfield; Arthur of Washington, D.C.; and Martha (who died in infancy). However, her duties as mother began immediately at marriage in that she gave a mother's care to the children of her husband's first marriage: Amelia, Otto, Albert, Rudolph, Elizabeth and Adolph. At the time all but Amelia were yet in the home. Of these, Rudolph of Lakin and Elizabeth of Dalton, Kansas are the only survivors. They made their home on the farm 10 miles north of Kendall. While living there she had to lay to rest her husband who died March 26, 1923. Since 1938 and until the time of her death she made her home in Lakin. Mrs. Gropp was signally blessed with a long and peaceful life during which she gained count-less friends, but during which also she faithfully and devotedly served her Savior in her home and her church. As a family in the rural area they were instrumental in bringing church services to that community. The services were generally held in the little school house, but many times she opened her home to serve this purpose also. These services, held during five pastorates of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Deerfield, always remained a cherished memory to her. She leaves to mourn her passing: her children, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, the children and grandchildren of her husband's former marriage, and many, many friends. Besides her husband & daughter who preceded her in death, there was also one brother, Fritz Fredrick Pritzkat, who died soon after she came to the United States...(The Lakin Independent, Jan 11, 1955)
