Description	:	Henry A. Decker, Sr., was born in Prussia, Sept. 24, 1832. At the age of 21, he emigrated to the United States, first locating in Cleveland, O. After remaining there one year he removed to Cass Co., Ill. In the spring of 1857 he was married to Miss Maria Tiemeyer, by which union they had seven children, four boys and three girls, all of whom are living. In 1859 he removed to Jefferson county, Kansas, and purchased a farm four miles west of Oskaloosa, where he has since continued to reside with the exception of two years, 1863 to '65,... Read More	Henry A. Decker, Sr., was born in Prussia, Sept. 24, 1832. At the age of 21, he emigrated to the United States, first locating in Cleveland, O. After remaining there one year he removed to Cass Co., Ill. In the spring of 1857 he was married to Miss Maria Tiemeyer, by which union they had seven children, four boys and three girls, all of whom are living. In 1859 he removed to Jefferson county, Kansas, and purchased a farm four miles west of Oskaloosa, where he has since continued to reside with the exception of two years, 1863 to '65, during the civil war, at which time Kansas was often invaded by lawless bands of "jayhawkers," as they were called, or "free booters." He then returned to Illinois, so that if his country called him to help fight her battles, he might leave his family among their relatives and friends. About the year 1870 he began to suffer acute and inflammatory rheumatism. He has been an invalid for over twenty years, during the last ten of which he has been unable to walk. Notwithstanding his great affliction, he bore it with patience and cheerfulness, and always proved a loving husband, a kind father and true friend. The only notable promotion which he ever received was on the 8th of March, 1891, when, at the age of 58 years, 5 mos., and 14 days, he received the promotion which he had so long expected, and for which let us hope and believe he was well prepared. At 10 o'clock on the morning of the 8th, without a struggle, the spirit bid farewell to its prison-house of pain, and went to meet its God from whence it came.
