He was born August 21, 1899 at Marcus, Iowa to Alvin and Mary (Heller) Dezellem. When he was four years old, the family moved to Douglas County. He lived and worked on the family wheat ranch on Dyer Hill until he was 13. Mr. Dezellem married Alma Armour on July 9, 1923, at Wenatchee and they made their home in Pateros. They later moved to Omak, where they raised their family before returning to Pateros. He left home at an early age and worked at various jobs, including delivering milk with a team-drawn wagon in Seattle, transporting supplies by team to a dam to near Los Angeles, California, hauling wheat on both tandem wagons and sleds to Bridgeport and Mansfield and helping build and launch the Bridgeport Riverboat. He later returned to the family farm in partnership with his brothers. He also worked for the state, plowing snow for a time. He then worked piling lumber for Biles-Coleman in Omak and Twisp Wagner in Okanogan, Twisp and Pateros for nearly 40 years. He was a 40 year resident of Pateros. Survivors include a son, Robert Dezellem of Brewster; a daughter, Isabel Whitely of Springdale, Arkansas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and two sisters. Services were Monday, November 18 at 10 am from the Pateros United Methodist Church with Reverend William Long officiating. Committal services and interment were in the Brewster Cemetery. Arrangements by Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
