Obituary: Henry Utterback, a Keokuk county resident, died Saturday noon, May 31 at the Lucse nursing home in Centerville. He had been a patient in the home since December 1956. He was born August 7, 1870, west of Hayesville, the son of Jefferson and Maleva Utterbcak, and spent his entire life in Keokuk county. He grew to young manhood in Hayesville community. Obituary: Henry Utterback, a Keokuk county resident, died Saturday noon, May 31 at the Lucse nursing home in Centerville. He had been a patient in the home since December 1956. He was born August 7, 1870, west of Hayesville, the son of Jefferson and Maleva Utterbcak, and spent his entire life in Keokuk county. He grew to young manhood in Hayesville community. On March 26, 1899 he was united in marriage to Hattie Jacobs and they moved onto a farm of Mrs. Utterbcak's father. For 18 years he farmed in the Hayesville community. In 1919 they came to Sigourney and established a home. For two years he was employed by the county surveyor, and for the next five years he was employed as a bus driver. He spent the remainder of his working years as an electric sweeper salesman. As salesman for the Wise-McClung manufacturing company of Philadelphia, Ohio, his work was held with high regard. He was generous to those in need, a faithful member of Sigourney Christian church and a loyal attendant of the Men's Brotherhood class. Mrs. Utterbcak died December 5, 1943 and one son, Dale, died in infancy. In addition to his wife and son he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, his twin, W.C. of Sigourney, and Fayette, of Sigourney, and Burnette of Moulton, who were also twins, and George of California; three sisters, Mrs. Delia Rogers and Mrs. John Ray, both of Hayesville and Mrs. Lester Utterback of Sigourney. The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon, June 3 at 2 o'clock in Sigourney Christian church. The Rev. Robert Mattson pastor, was in charge of the service. Burial was in the Pennigton cemetery.
