Mr. Petz was thrown to the ground and the mule fell upon him, seriously crushing him about the hips. A passing automobile found Mr. Petz and helped to get him to the house. Doctor Cate was summoned and has been caring for him. In addition to being badly bruised externally, internal injuries have been sustained and to just what extent was difficult to judge. He suffered intense pain and for a time it was feared the accdent (sic) might prove fatal, but at this writing he seems to be improving and his early recovery is hoped for. ============================================ The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, May 6, 1926 Again the shadows have fallen upon our community. The dark clouds of sorrow hovers over us, and this time we have lost a friend beloved from the community, a tender father and a loving husband from the home, a faithful efficient Elder of the Presbyterian church. Henry August Petz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Petz, was born in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, June 27, 1882, and died May 2, 1926, at his home near Nelson, Nebr., at the age of 43 years, 10 months and 5 days. When he was an infant the family moved to Firth, Nebr. Ten years later they moved to Nelson, Nebr. On June 28, 1905, he was married to Miss Anna Paschold and the young couple settled on the farm near Nelson, where they have resided ever since. To this union were born three children. One child died in infancy. Earl and Clifford at home survive their father. Mr. Petz in infancy was christened in the Lutheran church and was brough up in the Christian faith. When a young man he united with the Lutheran church at Lincoln, Nebr. He has been a member of the Nelson Presbyterian church for many years. In the old home of his parents he was the oldest of fourteen children, nine boys and five girls, and all are living today to mourn his loss. They are: Mrs. Emma Lehn, Mt. Clare; Louis Petz, Nelson; Walter Petz, Brush, Colo.; Elmer Petz, Malon Petz, Ralph Petz, Irvin Petz, Verna Petz, Chas. Petz, Reseda, Calif.; Mrs. Ada Lehn, Chappell; Inez Petz, Clifford Petz, Mildred Petz, Santa Anna, Calif. Also his parents who Mr. and Mrs. Chris Petz, are here to mourn his loss today. In business Mr. Petz was energetic, resourceful and quite successful. By special course of study in agriculture in the State University he had prepared himself along certain particular lines which he put in practice on the farm. In the community and society he was a real asset, always ready to do more than his part to contribute to the welfare of the community. In his home as a kind husband and father, he with his dutiful wife, cheristed mutual love, and cooperation, a strong sense of right and duty, love of the Christ and loyalty to his church, and all together created a fine Christian atmosphere that was wholesome for the two boys. Mr. Petz was elected an ordained Elder of the Presbyterian church in the year 1920 and filled that office until his death with joy to himself and fidelity to his sacred trust. He was at once the connecting link between the church and the farmers in the community and took a vital interest in their temporal and spiritual welfare. He was a joy to his pastor always ready to perform the task assigned and enjoying his fellowship. He seemed to grow in usefulness all the while. The church has lost in him a zealour worker and an enthusiastic promoter of its interests. He had no small share in our recent personal workers' campaign and we fancy him to present some of these souls won for Christ as trophies of glory. His genial optimistic nature sanctified by grace, made him many friends. He was unassuming in his ways, kind in disposition, considerate of others, friendly and brought cheer to our hearts. The whole community mourns today. So sudden he was taken away by the effect of an accident, but to "live in hearts left behind is not to die." "He that liveth and believeth in me shall never die" says Jesus. The funeral was from the Presbyterian church this (Thursday) afternoon, the services being conducted by his pastor, Rev. Stephen H. Jones. The shadows are dense, but the light, again, Of Heaven's great glory shall life the gloom, And bring into view every hill and glen- Dear friends, for this light of the sould make room, From the vale of tears, see the golden west That speaks of Heaven's day when earth's day is done; "He giveth his beloved sleep" and rest- In God's great Homeland we shall all be one.
