Same date under title of District No. 2; "Henry Bell, who has been in a critical condition for some time, passed away at his home Monday morning." Same date under local news page #5: "After a lingering illness, Henry Bell, an old and highly respected citizen of Polk County, passed quietly away Monday morning. Mr. Bell has many friends who will be pained to hear of his demise, he having lived in the vicinity for a period of twenty-eight years. Funeral occured Tuesday from Brethern Church." THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Story Co., Iowa Thursday November 4, 1897 Vol XIV No. 46, page 8: "Bell - Died at his home in Washington township, Polk County, Monday, Oct 25, 1897, after a long illness, Henry Bell, aged 75 years, 5 months, 23 days. Another bright star has set in the zenith of good works, and all neighbors deeply mourned when they learned of the death of Henry Bell, which occured at his home in Washington Township, Polk county, Monday of last week. Mr. Bell was on of the old settlers of this vicinity and was highly esteemed by all with whom he came in contact, and although his demise has been momenttarily expected for some time, it cast a pall upon all when the dread messenger claimed his won. Mr. Bell was born in Wayne county, Ohio, May 2, 1822, and when but 10 years old removed with his parents to Porter county, Ind., where he grew to manhood and married Miss Margaret Graybel, Jan 16, 1848. To them were born six children, five of whom and the mother still survive to mourn his loss. In 1868 he removed to Iowa and settled upon a farm in Delaware township, Polk County, where he resided until 1876, when he moved onto the present homestead. In religious belief he was a Universalist, but never allowed his preferences for that church to be a bar between himself and neighbors who belonged to other churches. He has relatives buried at Peoria City and Cory Grove, but those who best knew his wishes about the matter knew he would rather be laid to rest beside those who had shown him many kindnesses, and he was accordingly interred in the Brethern cemetery. The funeral occured on Tuesday of last week, the last solemn words being delivered by Rev. H. H. Troup. CARD OF THANKS: Mrs. Henry Bell and children desire to extend their most sincere thanks to all neighbors and friends who so unsacrificingly assisted during the last illness of husband and father. May Heaven's choicest blessings rest upon each devoted head, is their daily prayer."
