He was born February 17, 1910, near Rison, Arkansas, he was a son of John Ike Lunsford [1880-1943] and Hillie Elizabeth Singleton Lunsford [1882-1917] He was reared up in Rison and later in the Sheridan community working in his early years at saw mills, farming and for a time, at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in the construction department. He was born February 17, 1910, near Rison, Arkansas, he was a son of John Ike Lunsford [1880-1943] and Hillie Elizabeth Singleton Lunsford [1882-1917] He was reared up in Rison and later in the Sheridan community working in his early years at saw mills, farming and for a time, at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in the construction department. Later in his life, he worked many years for the Jefferson County Road Department. Henry met and married his love, Mattie Lula Mae Winston, the daughter of William Andrew and Martha Elizabeth Bright Winston, and together set on a long journey through life having a large family of fourteen children, of those were four sets of paternal twins! Sadly, of those children, a infant child, Donnie Lee, lived only a couple of months. Mr. Henry loved to talk very much and could carry a good conversation with anyone that would listen. He liked to wear suspenders and cowboy hats at times as he smoked his favorite brand. The four sets of twins were, starting with the first set onto the last set; Lonnie and Donnie; Ray and Dorothy Faye; Martha Nell and John L; and the last set was Maxine and Pauline. These children grew up helping each other at home or toiling in the dusty fields trying to make a living as times were considered 'hard' as the daily struggle to fed a large family was paramount for the hard working parents. At the time of his untimely death, Henry was survived by his wife of over sixty years, Mattie Lula Mae Winston Lunsford; eight sons, Billy Gene Lunsford, Lonnie Lee Lunsford, Charlie Ray Lunsford, John L. Lunsford and Larry Dewayne Lunsford, all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Havis Adell Lunsford of Pickens, Arkansas and William Henry Lunsford of Star City, Arkansas; five daughters, Carolyn Sue Leopard and Martha Nell Nicholson, both of White Hall, Maxine Ward of Sheridan, Pauline Lunsford of Pine Bluff and Dorothy Faye Matkin of Fordyce; and many many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for many years. This country Church near Rison, Arkansas also was a final resting place for those that are Lunsford family descendants on the Church grounds. His Funeral service was held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Calvin Terry officiating the packed house service. Many grieving loved ones gathered tearfully to remember and pay respects for this honorable family man. Nephews of the family were pallbearers with interment at New Hope Cemetery by Buie Funeral Home of Rison handling the arrangements. His legacy of hard work and instilling the work ethic to take care of your family through good times and bad times will always be a tribute to his long life as a husband, and father and grandfather. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
